El Dorado Developments, LLC was established in 2020 to serve as a holding company for various development projects initiated by Dewhurst Group, LLC. El Dorado has, together with Induaqua, SAS, formed a company, Trina, SAS, in Colombia to consolidate and manage trout farms that the owner of Induaqua, Mr. Germ\u00e1n Barrera, participates. Trina focuses on producing and exporting sustainable trout from Colombia. El Dorado Developments, LLC is an American company and is Induaqua\u2019s sole partner on Trina.<\/p>\n

Induaqua, a Colombian company, was formed by Mr.\u00a0Germ\u00e1n Alejandro Barerra in 2009 to concentrate exclusively on raising fish and promoting best aquaculture practices. Induaqua produces fish via five subsidiary farms that are owned fully or partially by Mr. Barrera or his family. Induaqua is the largest single farmed-fish producer in Colombia, and is Colombia\u2019s only fish exporter that has has qualified for Plan Vallejo, a specific tax-preference policy that confers a preferential duty rate on imported raw materials used to manufacture Colombian goods for export. Approximately one hundred people are currently employed by Induaqua.<\/p>\n

The core mission of this venture is the production of high quality rainbow trout at Induaqua\u2019s farms and processing plants. The facilities use state of the art technology, including new recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). Approximately 180 to 220 metric tons of trout are harvested and processed by Induaqua\u2019s facilities every month. Mr. Barrera has secured the exclusive right to use a specialized sustainable and efficient Norwegian fish feed (Cargill, Inc.\/EWOS) and to sell this feed to other fish producers within South America. The high-energy EWOS diet has helped to increase production and improve the quality of the finished product, much of which is exported in the popular \u201cTrim D\u201d format.<\/p>\n

Aquaculture is one of the most sustainable animal protein production systems compared to terrestrial animal farming, and it will help meet the world\u2019s growing demand for seafood as wild-capture fisheries reach their limit. El Dorado Developments and its partners are further committed to meeting the highest standards for environmental, social, and economic sustainability. This includes the implentation of strict health and safety standards, utilizing energy-efficient feed, renewable energy sources and gravity-fed water sources, and pursuing internationally recognized sustainability certifications for all Trina facilities.<\/p>\n

POST-CONFLICT RESOLUTION<\/h4>\n

This project contributes to Colombia\u2019s postconflict resolution efforts. Former guerrillas from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia\u2013People\u2019s Army (FARC) are integrated and employed at the fish farms. Additionally, many, if not most, employees of Induaqua\u2019s processing plants are women who were directly impacted by the decades of violence in the country. Induaqua contributes significantly to postconflict resolution efforts in Boyac\u00e1 and Antioquia. Boyac\u00e1 and Antioquia were major sites of violence. Trina understands these issues in rural Colombia. Mr. Barrera himself was a victim of the conflict. He is determined to contibute to lasting peace for the people in the moorlands and throughout the country. Trina will hopefully contribute to that lasting peace.<\/p>\n

El Dorado\u2019s founder, Dr. Warren T. Dewhurst, has a long history of developing projects and partnerships within Colombia, Russia, and Norway. El Dorado Developments is a sister company of both Dewhurst Group, LLC and Dewhurst Group, SAS. Dewhurst Group is a developer of sustainable-energy projects in the renewable sector, particularly geothermal power plants, and future small hydro-electric power facilities in Caquet\u00e1, Colombia.<\/p>\n

Together with his family, he has decades of experience farming trout and producing animal protein in Colombia. The Barrera family owns two ranches and wildlife preserves\u2014one 18,000 hectares, the other 78,000 hectares\u2014in the Colombian Llana. Mr. Barrera serves as an invited policy consultant to the Colombian government and as the president of the Fish Farming Cooperative in Boyac\u00e1, Colombia. He has also served as an invited expert consultant to Turkey and South Africa.<\/p>\n

Dr. Kara Dewhurst has been working in the environmental field since 2012 and has experience working in Colombia. She earned her doctorate degree from the University of Virginia in 2017 with a focus on corporate sustainability and renewable energy policy. She is excited to oversee sustainability initiatives for El Dorado Developments, including the process of obtaining sustainability certifications for the aquaculture facilities.<\/p>\n
